Harrison | Award-Winning Math Tutor | 15 Years Experience | 3 University DegreesTutoring is not just my side hustle. It's my livelihood, and I treat it with the utmost respect. As a full-time tutor, my priority is the education of my students, and I go above and beyond to ensure they succeed.
Unlike a typical classroom setting, you won’t get recycled explanations. I provide a range of alternative methods and explanations, tailored to each student's needs. I also take the time to understand how each student learns best, allowing me to adjust my pace and approach accordingly. I encourage active participation and feedback, ensuring students are comfortable and engaged throughout the learning process. I offer additional lessons during exam periods and SAC times, making myself available when students need extra support. My flexibility, care, attention to detail, and ability to engage students are what set me apart.
No question will go unanswered. If a problem cannot be solved during class, the student will receive a video or document with a detailed explanation. Lessons will not end abruptly just because the time is up. The topic or problem at hand will be finalised to the best of my ability, even if that means going slightly overtime. I Know how frustrating it can be to get stuck on a problem and then have to wait an entire week (or more) to ask your tutor for help. So I encourage my students to reach out between lessons with any issues they are struggling with. I make it a point to respond promptly; typically, within a day or two.

Often the biggest issue with teaching maths is that the student doesn’t know exactly what they don't understand or why. So, the first step needs to be identifying where they lost track, usually by going over the student’s school material.

Each topic in maths tends to come packaged with a variety of new problems. This can be daunting, making it seem like there’s no end to what they must learn. But most maths problems can be solved via very similar logical processes. One of my main goals is to help students see this for themselves.

Reframing a topic or problem can make it much more accessible. Showing students how to reframe—and training them to do it themselves—is vital. In a test, reframing can save time and turn even the ugliest problem into something elegant.
∞
Leveraging visual tools is also key—through diagrams, sketches, software, videos, or physical objects. Good visual representations make all the difference.
