I have found most students need to hear material twice. Rarely do they fully understand nor appreciate the first time a lesson is presented to them. They still need to have the information presented at least one more time and maybe more.
The sciences require a new way of thinking for the traditional student to fully appreciate it. This is where I can be beneficial.

My usual approach to tutoring is to first get the students to enjoy themselves and feel comfortable with learning. Once this is mastered, the learning process becomes much easier. I try to find out where the problems with the material exists and organize an individualized approach to address the issue. I have found most students need some coaching on study skills and concentration. Finally I relate the material to each student's life and show the importance of what they are learning.
