I’m James C. Detlefs and I’m a graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in Material Sciences and Electrical Engineering.

My love for teaching came from being a student with a great tutor myself. I have experience as an Academic Tutor at University of Michigan & Washtenaw Community College in middle school through University with a wide range of abilities in Mathematics and Sciences. I have worked with students excelling in their subject as well as students struggling to achieve their desired grade.

The difference in learning through a one on one approach really makes learning that much easier. When a student tells me that they learned more in our one tutoring session than they had in a three hour class really makes me feel proud of what I’m doing, and is testimony to private tutoring effectiveness. I leave no detail unwritten and no step unexplained. I have been tutoring everything from Arithmetic to Differential Equations for several years now and know how to teach in a one on one environment.

I can tell you from experience there are reasons you are seeking personal tutoring and that is because either the teacher didn’t explain it well or goes to fast without covering every step by step detail. That’s why I make sure to show the steps and explain the steps the teacher doesn’t have time to in a large classroom environment. One on One tutoring is far more effective for individuals really trying to learn than large classrooms.
