I entered this world in Northwest Ohio, growing up on a small farm. Becoming teacher was always my dream, even as a child; upon entering college the dream of becoming a teacher merged with my love of science, particularly biology. My undergraduate degree is in Biology, with teaching certification.
Twenty years in the high school classroom offered me not only the opportunity to teach biology, environmental science, anatomy/physiology, and general science, but also the opportunity to gain practical experience.
Teaching is more than just sharing knowledge, and a good teacher also gets to know his or her students ,and caters to theri needs in many ways.
I was always involved in many extracurricular activities, from coaching the Science Olympaid team, to directing the senior musical. Setting an example for students was also important through many levels of community service and involvement, such as "adopting" highways, waterways, and even manatees.
After earning my graduate degree, I left the formal classroom, and spent several years directing a marine field station in Belize. This move allowed me to further my knowledge in tropical ecology, and at the same time provided a means to still be a teacher to the many schools that utilized the station.
Along the way, I have achieved a deep understanding for learning styles, so I am able to help any student enjoy seeking knowledge!
