Russian is not a mamma mia, it’s a song of ice and fire in linguistics!Russian is a difficult language, learning it is a nightmare and takes two lifetimes – anyone who has ever been interested in studying it must have heard or said this at one time or another. So, what about taking an alternative point of view into consideration?
I was encouraged to take up teaching Russian by discontent. Why, whenever you open an educational website, all given language examples are out of date? Why, whenever you watch an educational YouTube video, tutors over pronounce words in such an unnatural way, so that even native speakers don’t recognize them? Why does pronunciation need to be taught with that ridiculous phonetic script compared to which even Chinese seems effortless and logical?
All of this ends up driving language learners to despair. And that’s upsetting! Because this beautiful, logical and not difficult language can bring a lot of intellectual pleasure and emotional joy. Isn’t this what we want to get out of mastering something new?
That is the reason why I decided to leave a conservative system of education. My lessons are conversational, during which you listen, repeat, speak and memorize. I have been analyzing Russian conversational speech for months and realized that to master it is not hard at all! That is the reason I started giving lessons guided by new principles, the gist of which is ‘Not To Overcomplicate’. You know that a three year old toddler can learn a language, don’t you? And can he learn physics? I doubt it.
